Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced that new venues will be added for PSL 2027, indicating a major expansion plan for the Pakistan Super League.
Speaking to the media, Naqvi thanked the people of Lahore and praised cricket fans for their enthusiasm, discipline, and strong support during the PSL final. He said the atmosphere at Gaddafi Stadium was exceptional, with spectators showing great passion throughout the match.
He further appreciated the way fans supported both teams equally and enjoyed the game, highlighting the deep connection Pakistani audiences have with cricket. According to him, the energy and commitment of the crowd played a key role in making the final a memorable event.
Naqvi’s remarks came after the PSL 11 final, where a full-capacity crowd was allowed following special government approval. Earlier in the tournament, matches were restricted to just Lahore and Karachi, and were initially played behind closed doors due to fuel-saving measures linked to a nationwide energy crisis.
He explained that securing permission for spectators was challenging, as the Prime Minister initially prioritized reducing fuel consumption. However, recognizing the importance of public interest and cricket fans’ enthusiasm, the decision was later reversed, allowing fans to attend the final in large numbers.
Looking ahead, the PCB chairman stressed that PSL 2027 will be significantly bigger and more competitive. The inclusion of new venues is part of a broader strategy to expand the league’s reach across Pakistan and enhance its international profile.
He added that the league has already grown from six to eight teams and continues to evolve, with future editions expected to further strengthen its global reputation and fan engagement.
