Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been placed under a strict security and transport lockdown, with authorities suspending all public, private, and goods transport across the twin cities amid heightened alerts over possible high-level diplomatic developments.
The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad announced that both heavy and public transport services would remain suspended until further notice, without disclosing specific reasons. Citizens were urged to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies as the restrictions took immediate effect.
The Metro Bus service has also been significantly affected. Operations have been completely halted between PIMS Station and Pak Secretariat, while limited service continues from Sadar Station to Kachehri. Officials confirmed that the Metro Bus service will remain partially suspended until further instructions from the district administration.
In Rawalpindi, authorities enforced a complete shutdown of all transport, including private vehicles, public transport, and goods carriers. Officials stated that further updates would be shared as the situation develops, adding to uncertainty across both cities.
The sweeping restrictions come amid speculation that Pakistan could host another round of talks between the United States and Iran. However, no official confirmation has been issued by any of the involved countries, and Iranian authorities have indicated that no date has been finalized yet.
Even before the transport suspension, Rawalpindi had already been placed on high alert. City Police Officer Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani ordered enhanced security arrangements in anticipation of potential movement of foreign delegations.
Police teams are continuing round-the-clock patrols across both cities, maintaining strict vigilance as Islamabad and Rawalpindi remain under one of the most intense security setups in recent times.
