Punjab is preparing to introduce its first Fast Train, marking a major shift in the province’s transport system. The project aims to improve travel speed and strengthen connectivity between key cities.

The initiative follows an agreement signed between the Punjab government and Pakistan Railways. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi finalized the Memorandum of Understanding. Officials say this step will modernize railway infrastructure and bring faster travel options to the public.

Under the plan, the Fast Train will run between Lahore and Rawalpindi. The journey is expected to take only two hours and 15 minutes. This will significantly reduce travel time between the two major cities. Authorities believe the service will offer a more efficient alternative to road transport.

The project is being described as a milestone in Pakistan’s railway sector. It reflects efforts to upgrade outdated systems and introduce modern transport solutions. The launch of the Fast Train is expected to set a new standard for rail travel in the country.

In addition to this flagship route, several other railway lines are also planned. Modern train services will be introduced on eight local routes across Punjab. These routes aim to improve regional mobility and connect smaller cities.

One route will run from Shahdara to Narowal, covering about 79 kilometers. Another line will connect Narowal to Sialkot over a distance of 62 kilometers. These projects will make travel easier for people in nearby areas.

A longer railway corridor will link Raiwind, Kasur, Pakpattan, and Lodhran. This route will span around 370 kilometers and improve access across central and southern Punjab. Another line will connect Sheikhupura, Jaranwala, and Shorkot over 220 kilometers.

Additional projects include a 68-kilometer route from Faisalabad via Chak Jhumra and Shaheenabad. A major 303-kilometer railway line will also connect Kot Addu, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Kashmore.

Officials estimate that around 90 million people will benefit from these developments. The expansion of the rail network is expected to boost economic activity and reduce travel costs.
