NADRA Introduces Major Facility to Ease Arms Licensing in Punjab

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new facility to simplify arms licensing in Punjab. The move aims to make the process faster and more accessible for citizens across the province.

Under the updated system, NADRA has enabled biometric verification through the Pak ID mobile app. This allows applicants to complete a key step from their homes. Citizens no longer need to visit offices for biometric confirmation.

Applicants can now submit their requests through the official Punjab Firearms License website. After submitting the application, users can verify their identity directly on the mobile app. This change removes many of the difficulties faced in the past.

Officials say the new system will improve transparency and efficiency. It also reduces delays that were common in manual procedures. The role of NADRA is central in ensuring secure and reliable identity verification.

Earlier, the Punjab Home Department had suspended all manual and institutional firearm license processes. This decision was announced in November 2025. It included a halt to renewals and the conversion of old licenses.

At that time, authorities directed license holders to shift to computerized systems. Those with older manual licenses were given a final chance to update their records. All previous instructions related to manual processing were cancelled.

The department also sought detailed reports from divisional commissioners. These reports covered licenses computerized between March and November. Officials also reviewed progress on collecting illegal weapons across Punjab.

The deweaponization campaign remains an important part of the policy. Authorities aim to reduce the number of unregistered firearms in the province. The updated licensing system is expected to support this goal.

Experts believe the new digital process will make services more user-friendly. It will also help authorities maintain accurate records. The integration of mobile technology is seen as a major step forward.
