PM Hails Iran-US Deal, Says Pakistan Played Historic Role

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the recently signed Iran-US agreement as a major breakthrough for global peace, stating that Pakistan played a historic role in facilitating dialogue between the two countries.

Speaking during a session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, the prime minister said Pakistan worked actively to reduce tensions and help secure a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

He called the development a historic moment and expressed hope that the agreement would contribute to peace and stability not only in the region but around the world.

According to Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan participated in mediation efforts that led to the ceasefire and broader diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran. He said discussions on nuclear issues and frozen assets would continue as part of the next phase of negotiations.

The prime minister stated that Pakistan made sincere efforts to bridge differences between the two countries and also became part of the diplomatic framework supporting the peace process.

He said senior representatives from both countries gathered in Burgenstock, where intensive negotiations continued for several days before culminating in a joint declaration.

According to the prime minister, the declaration was finalized in the early hours of the morning and later ratified by all parties, paving the way for the ceasefire and future diplomatic engagement.

Shehbaz Sharif informed the National Assembly that technical-level talks between the United States and Iran would continue over the next 60 days. He expressed optimism that the discussions would lead to significant progress and potentially a long-term agreement.

The prime minister also announced the arrival of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Pakistan, saying the visit would help strengthen bilateral ties and create new opportunities for cooperation between the neighboring countries.

He urged political parties to demonstrate unity during the visit and avoid divisive political debates, emphasizing the importance of national solidarity on key diplomatic occasions.

Highlighting Pakistan’s international standing, the prime minister said the country’s role in the peace process received widespread global attention and enhanced its image on the world stage.

Shehbaz Sharif also stressed the importance of harmony among Pakistan’s provinces, stating that balanced development across all regions is essential for national progress. He noted that resources were being allocated through mutual consultation and cooperation.

During his address, the prime minister responded to criticism from the opposition regarding the legitimacy of the current government. He argued that if previous elected governments were considered legitimate, the same standard should apply to the current administration.

He also called for an examination of the 2018 general elections, raising questions about alleged irregularities during that electoral process.

The prime minister concluded by urging lawmakers to focus on national interests and constructive dialogue as Pakistan seeks to strengthen its diplomatic and economic position internationally.
