Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran. He called it a historic achievement for Pakistan. He also expressed gratitude for the success of diplomatic efforts.
The prime minister said the impact of this development will be felt by the public. He noted that falling global oil rates will help reduce Petrol Prices in Pakistan. According to him, the government plans to pass this relief to consumers gradually.
He confirmed that the federal cabinet will soon meet to discuss further steps. The goal is to ensure that people benefit from the decline in global oil prices. Officials are working on measures to control inflation and ease financial pressure.
The ceasefire between the US and Iran has already affected global markets. Oil prices have dropped significantly after the agreement. This decline has created an opportunity to lower Petrol Prices in Pakistan.
Earlier, fuel costs had reached record levels due to rising global tensions. Petrol Prices had surged to around Rs458 per litre. This increase had placed a heavy burden on households and businesses.
In response, the government announced a relief package. Petrol prices were reduced by Rs80, bringing the rate down to Rs378 per litre. This step provided immediate relief to consumers.
The government also introduced austerity measures to manage economic challenges. Federal cabinet members decided to forgo their salaries for six months. This decision was taken to support national financial stability.
The prime minister linked the previous price hike to global conflicts. He said tensions involving the US and regional players had driven oil prices higher. However, he assured that Petrol Prices will continue to improve as conditions stabilize.
To manage transport costs, the government adjusted fuel policies. The petroleum levy on petrol was increased to Rs160 per litre. At the same time, the levy on diesel was reduced to zero to support freight operations.
Additional relief measures were also introduced for the public. Train fares and road taxes have been kept unchanged. Free public bus services are being provided in Islamabad, Punjab, and Sindh.
Experts believe that stable global conditions will help maintain lower fuel costs. The recent drop in oil prices is seen as a positive sign. If trends continue, Petrol Prices may decrease further in the coming weeks.
