Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the petroleum products supply chain and ongoing austerity measures. The meeting focused on ensuring stable supplies and providing relief to low-income segments amid regional and global uncertainties.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz instructed relevant ministries to finalize proposals after consultations with provincial authorities. The goal is to strengthen supply management and continue supporting vulnerable citizens.
During the session, PM Shehbaz emphasized strict action against petroleum smuggling and illegal hoarding. He noted that these measures are crucial to maintaining market stability and protecting consumers. The prime minister also highlighted that the government had already taken significant steps over the past three weeks to support low-income groups.
Through reductions in the development budget and implementation of austerity measures, the federal government has provided Rs129 billion in relief to prevent an increase in petroleum prices. PM Shehbaz said timely decisions ensured the availability of petroleum products across the country, meeting domestic demand effectively.
Officials briefed the meeting participants that austerity measures are progressing steadily. A digital dashboard is being used to monitor the supply and demand of petroleum products nationwide. This ensures transparency and uninterrupted availability throughout the supply chain.
The meeting was attended by key federal ministers, including Ahad Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, and other senior officials.
