Pakistan cricketer Fakhar Zaman has been suspended for two matches in the HBL PSL following a ball tampering incident. The decision was confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday.
According to officials, Fakhar Zaman was found guilty of a Level 3 offence. He breached Article 2.14 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The incident took place during the Lahore Qalandars vs Karachi Kings match on March 29 at Gaddafi Stadium.
The issue occurred in the final moments of the match. On-field umpires noticed irregularities with the ball. As a result, Lahore Qalandars were penalized five runs. The ball was also replaced before the last over of Karachi Kings’ innings.
The charge was raised by the match officials. These included umpires Shahid Saikat, Faisal Khan Aafreedi, TV umpire Asif Yaqoob, and fourth umpire Tariq Rasheed. Their observations led to formal disciplinary proceedings.
Fakhar Zaman denied the allegations and chose to contest the charge. A full disciplinary hearing was conducted in line with the official rules. The hearing was led by match referee Roshan Mahanama.
During the hearing, all evidence was reviewed carefully. Fakhar was also given the opportunity to present his side. Key team officials attended the session, including Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sameen Rana, and Farooq Anwar.
After reviewing the case, the match referee upheld the charge. As a result, Fakhar Zaman was handed a two-match suspension. The decision means he will miss important upcoming PSL fixtures.
Lahore Qalandars are scheduled to play against Multan Sultans on April 3 at Gaddafi Stadium. They will then face Islamabad United on April 9 in Karachi. The absence of Fakhar could impact the team’s performance in these matches.
