Malaysia has launched a new centralized system to make it easier for companies in the manufacturing and select service sectors to hire foreign workers. The initiative aims to streamline the work pass application process by placing it entirely under the supervision of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). Through this single platform, employers can submit, track, and manage applications without having to coordinate with multiple government departments, reducing administrative hurdles and improving efficiency.
The system integrates MIDA’s approval procedures with the existing Xpats Gateway portal, allowing companies to complete the entire process using one login. While the overall timelines for approvals remain largely the same, the new approach eliminates unnecessary steps and ensures clearer coordination among agencies. The change primarily applies to manufacturing firms and service-sector companies that have received MIDA’s approval for hiring foreign professionals.
MIDA will now oversee all stages of the work pass process, from initial approval to final endorsement. The platform covers multiple types of passes, including Employment Pass (EP), Employment Pass for Foreign Graduates (EP-FG), Professional Visit Pass (PVP), and Dependent Passes for family members. Post-approval processing and endorsements will also be managed centrally, ensuring a smoother experience for both employers and applicants.
For foreign professionals, the system does not alter eligibility criteria or visa validity periods but focuses on faster, more transparent processing. Applicants can expect better coordination between government departments, fewer administrative requirements for employers, and clearer visibility into the approval process.
Officials highlight that this move supports Malaysia’s broader economic goals by helping attract skilled international talent to the country’s manufacturing, technology, and professional service sectors. By consolidating the entire application process under MIDA, the government aims to reduce delays, eliminate duplicate paperwork, and ensure consistent decision-making. Overall, the centralized system is expected to simplify and standardize hiring procedures, making it easier for companies to bring in foreign professionals and for workers to obtain the necessary approvals to work in Malaysia.
