Singer Meesha Shafi on Wednesday moved a Lahore court, requesting the dismissal of the defamation case filed against her by Ali Zafar.
Presenting her final arguments, her counsel Saqib Jilani told the court that no solid evidence had been submitted to substantiate Zafar’s defamation allegations. He emphasized that Shafi had already provided proof of several alleged harassment incidents and had remained consistent in her stance throughout the case.
Jilani further stated that Zafar had initially tried to settle the matter privately before making it public, but those attempts did not succeed. He argued that Shafi should not be penalized for voicing her claims.
Earlier, Zafar’s lawyer Tariq Gill maintained that the allegations made by Shafi were baseless and had severely damaged Zafar’s reputation, impacting both his professional career and personal life. Zafar has also demanded Rs1 billion in compensation for the alleged harm.
After listening to arguments from both parties, Additional District and Sessions Judge Asif Hayat Bajwa adjourned the hearing until Thursday.
The dispute between the two artists dates back to 2018, when Shafi first accused Zafar of sexual harassment. Since then, Zafar has repeatedly denied the accusations, insisting that the claims have tarnished his public image and caused distress to his family.
