The PSL 11 begins today with an exciting opening match as defending champions Lahore Qalandars face debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium. The clash sets the stage for a contest between experience and fresh ambition.
Although matches will be played without spectators this season, the tournament is still expected to deliver intense competition, strong rivalries, and memorable performances. Led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Lahore Qalandars enter the tournament aiming to defend their title, starting their campaign on March 26 against the new franchise.
The Qalandars, who have reached four finals in the past six editions, will compete in a challenging group alongside Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, and Peshawar Zalmi. Teams will face each other twice within the group and once against teams from the other group, including Multan Sultans, Islamabad United, RawalpindiZ, and Hyderabad Kingsmen.
The tournament format includes 10 matches per team in the group stage, followed by a Qualifier and two Eliminators to determine the finalists. A total of 44 matches will be played, divided between Lahore and Karachi. Evening matches will start at 7:00 PM, while double-header days will begin at 2:30 PM.
PSL history features standout performers such as Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Shoaib Malik, and Rilee Rossouw with the bat, while Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Wahab Riaz, and Shadab Khan have dominated with the ball.
Both Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars hold three titles each, while other teams have claimed one. Shaheen Afridi expressed confidence in his team’s preparation, while Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne emphasized playing naturally and making a strong debut impact.
