US Gives Iran 48-Hour Ultimatum over Hormuz Closure

Iran and the United States are engaged in a sharp escalation following a 48-hour ultimatum linked to the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Donald Trump issued a strong warning, triggering immediate retaliation threats from Tehran. The broader Middle East, already unsettled by ongoing strikes involving Israel, is now on edge as tensions move closer to open confrontation.

Trump warned that if Iran does not reopen the vital shipping route within 48 hours, US forces could target and destroy major Iranian power plants. He emphasized that initial strikes would focus on key energy facilities, intensifying pressure on Tehran over control of the crucial waterway.

Iran responded swiftly. Its military command, Khatam al-Anbia, declared that any attack on its infrastructure would be met with retaliation against US and allied energy systems, IT networks, and desalination plants across the region.

This exchange comes as the Middle East conflict enters its fourth week, with hostilities already escalating into direct military actions. The situation worsened after Iranian missiles hit populated areas in southern Israel, damaging buildings and injuring dozens of civilians. The strikes occurred near sensitive nuclear-related sites, raising concerns about further escalation.

The attacks followed reports of an earlier strike on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, fueling a cycle of retaliation. Iranian officials, including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, described the strike as evidence of expanding military capability and a sign the conflict has entered a more dangerous phase.

Although international nuclear agencies confirmed no radiation leaks from Israeli facilities, fears remain high. Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir warned the conflict is far from over, indicating prolonged tensions ahead.

The crisis is also impacting the global economy, with rising fuel and food prices due to disruptions in a key energy corridor. Meanwhile, uncertainty persists within Iran’s leadership, particularly as Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly, raising questions about internal decision-making during this critical period.
