What You Need to Know About Israel’s Latest Moves in Iran

Israel has outlined detailed plans for at least three more weeks of military operations against Iran, following overnight airstrikes on several Iranian cities. The escalation comes as Iranian drone attacks temporarily shut Dubai International Airport and targeted a key oil facility in the United Arab Emirates.

The conflict, now entering its third week, has disrupted the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route that handles around 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas. Analysts warn that ongoing tensions could drive global oil prices higher and increase inflation risks.

Israeli Military Operations

Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani, spokesperson for the Israeli military, said the operations aim to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten Israel. The military is targeting ballistic missile infrastructure, nuclear facilities, and other security assets. Israel has mobilized over 110,000 reservists and stated that thousands of additional targets remain inside Iran.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed that Tehran has not requested a ceasefire or communicated directly with the United States regarding the conflict. Overnight strikes in Iran’s Markazi province reportedly killed five people and injured seven, with damage also reported to a boys’ school in Khomeyn city.

Regional Impact

The UAE reported disruptions at Fujairah port, a critical oil export hub, and Dubai International Airport suspended flights for several hours following a drone strike. Saudi Arabia intercepted 34 drones over its eastern region. Global oil prices surged, with Brent crude exceeding $104.50 per barrel.

International Response

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that Britain will not engage in military action but will support efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Japan, Germany, and Australia have limited or ruled out direct involvement. President Donald Trump urged countries relying on Gulf oil to assist in securing the strait and warned of potential delays to diplomatic visits without cooperation.

Ongoing Israeli Actions

Israel has also conducted strikes in Lebanon and Gaza, targeting Iran-backed Hezbollah and Hamas positions. Limited ground operations were reported in southern Lebanon. Officials continue to stress that Israel’s military campaign is aimed at reducing threats to its national security.
