Flight operations at Islamabad Airport will be temporarily suspended for two hours on March 16, according to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA). The suspension is due to operational reasons, the authority said in an official statement.
The PAA announced that flights at Islamabad Airport will stop from 08:30 AM to 10:30 AM (Pakistan Standard Time). During this period, no flight departures or arrivals will take place. The authority advised passengers to stay in contact with their airlines for the latest updates regarding their flights.
Travelers planning to fly from Islamabad Airport on Monday morning should check their flight schedules in advance. Airlines may adjust departure or arrival times because of the temporary suspension. Officials said passengers should rely on airline notifications for accurate information.
The announcement comes shortly after a security incident reported in the capital on Friday night. According to reports, air defence systems detected two drones flying near the Faizabad area. The drones were reportedly shot down after being seen loitering in the airspace.
Following the incident, several reports circulated on social media claiming that Islamabad’s airspace had been completely closed. These reports caused confusion among travelers and the general public.
However, the Pakistan Airports Authority quickly rejected these claims. Officials clarified that the airspace was not shut down. They said flight operations at Islamabad Airport were continuing normally after the incident.
The authority emphasized that the two-hour suspension on March 16 is only for operational purposes. It is not related to any long-term airspace restrictions. Flights will resume as usual after the scheduled time.
The PAA also urged citizens and travelers not to rely on unverified information. Officials asked the public to follow official announcements and trusted sources for updates about Islamabad Airport operations.
Passengers have been encouraged to arrive at the airport early and remain in contact with airline customer service teams. This can help avoid inconvenience caused by schedule changes.
