Petroleum Dealers Warn of Action if Margins Stay Unchanged

The Petroleum Dealers Association has threatened a nationwide strike starting March 26 if their profit margins are not increased. Fuel pumps across Pakistan may shut down after Eid, the association said.

According to Tariq Hassan, a leader of the association, dealers have repeatedly raised the issue with authorities. Promises made two years ago to revise profit margins have not been implemented.

The association criticized the recent Rs 55 per liter increase in petroleum prices, calling it “embezzlement.” Dealers claim oil marketing companies earned billions unfairly following the price hike. Some companies reportedly stocked petroleum before the increase to gain financial advantage.

Rising petroleum prices have significantly increased operational costs for fuel dealers. Hassan said that while petroleum costs continue to climb, dealers’ profit margins remain unchanged. This situation makes it difficult for petrol pump owners to manage day-to-day expenses.

The association also raised concerns about fuel supply. Oil marketing companies have reportedly reduced quotas for petrol pumps by half, putting further pressure on dealers already facing financial difficulties.

The Petroleum Dealers Association has urged the government to investigate the price hike and review the margin policy for dealers. Hassan warned that failing to address these demands could lead to a nationwide strike, disrupting fuel supply across the country.

Officials stressed that the strike would directly affect consumers, as petrol pumps may remain closed. The association insists the government must act quickly to prevent shortages and ensure fair margins for dealers.

The move highlights growing tension between fuel dealers and authorities over rising petroleum prices and stagnant profit margins. Citizens are closely watching developments, as the strike could impact transportation and daily life after Eid.
