Metro bus services in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been suspended for one day as authorities implement security measures for rallies being held to mark Quds Day.
Officials said the temporary suspension was ordered due to security concerns, stressing that the decision aims to protect citizens and ensure a safe environment for rally participants and commuters across the twin cities.
According to local administration sources, one rally will begin from Darbar Sakhi Mahmood, while another procession will move from Imam Bargah Ashiq Hussain in Teli Mohalla toward Murree Road. Authorities expect significant traffic congestion along major routes connected to the rally paths.
Law enforcement agencies have deployed additional police personnel in sensitive locations, alongside enhanced surveillance and monitoring measures. Special security arrangements have also been put in place along procession routes to maintain order and prevent any untoward incidents.
Traffic police have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the day and use alternative routes where possible to reduce inconvenience. Commuters who rely on metro bus services have been encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly.
Officials added that services are expected to resume once the rallies conclude and security clearance is granted, restoring normal public transport operations in both cities.
