Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni strongly condemned a deadly missile strike on an Iranian elementary school, calling the attack unlawful and demanding immediate international accountability measures.
Speaking before Parliament in Rome, Meloni described the tragedy as beyond international legal limits and expressed solidarity with grieving families affected by the devastating incident.
The strike hit Shajarah Tayyebeh elementary school in Minab, Iran, on February 28, killing 175 people, most of them young girls attending classes that morning.
A preliminary investigation linked the attack to Tomahawk missiles allegedly launched by United States Central Command after intelligence errors reportedly produced incorrect targeting coordinates during operational planning.
Officials said outdated data from the Defense Intelligence Agency contributed to the mistake, while the Pentagon declined comment amid mounting international scrutiny over verification failures.
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed surprise at reports blaming American forces, while European leaders including Friedrich Merz and Pedro Sánchez urged de-escalation and renewed peace negotiations.
