Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon has announced that the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) is developing a new chip for the M-Tag System for motorcycles. The upgraded chip will be provided free of cost to citizens once it is ready.
Memon explained that the current M-Tag becomes unusable if removed from a motorcycle. This ensures that a tag issued for one motorcycle cannot be reused on another vehicle.
He also said that if an M-Tag is stolen, citizens can report the incident through a dedicated helpline. The tag will be blocked immediately, and a replacement will be issued at no cost. The deputy commissioner highlighted that the M-Tag System includes multiple security and safety features designed to improve vehicle monitoring and regulation across the city.
In addition, security arrangements have been tightened at all mosques and imambargahs in Islamabad. Administrative officers remain active in the field to oversee the situation and ensure public safety.
The deputy commissioner also provided updates on ride-hailing services in the federal capital. The registration process for online taxis is ongoing, and over 19,000 taxis and motorcycles have been registered so far. Drivers are required to upload details of their trips, including pickup and drop-off locations and passenger identification information.
Authorities say that the improved M-Tag System and ride-hailing registration measures will strengthen transport safety, security, and accountability in Islamabad. These initiatives are expected to provide citizens with safer travel options while allowing authorities to monitor vehicles effectively.
