KP CM Announces Rs2,200 Fuel Subsidy for Bikers

Sohail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has announced a subsidy for motorcyclists across the province to help ease the burden of rising petroleum prices.

Addressing a press conference alongside Special Assistant for Information Shafi Jan and Finance Adviser Muzammil Aslam, the chief minister criticized the recent increase in fuel prices, claiming that the “fake government has dropped a petrol bomb on the public.”

He stated that the provincial government rejects the fuel price hike and urged the federal government to consult the provinces before making such decisions. Afridi also called on the centre to reduce its own expenditures instead of placing additional financial pressure on citizens.

The chief minister announced that the KP government will provide financial assistance to motorcyclists to help lower their transportation costs. He said approximately 1.4 to 1.6 million motorcycles are registered in the province, and each registered owner will receive a subsidy of Rs2,200.

Afridi further said the provincial administration stands with the public and will not increase fares for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service, adding that the government will absorb the additional financial burden.

He also revealed that the provincial government has imposed restrictions on purchasing new vehicles and limited international travel to reduce spending. According to Afridi, despite a helicopter crash involving the provincial government, a new helicopter will not be purchased. He contrasted this with the federal government, accusing it of continuing extravagant spending while increasing fuel prices for the public.
