Sindh Announces Date for Free Pink Scooters Distribution

The government of Sindh has announced that free pink scooters will be distributed to women as part of celebrations marking International Women’s Day. The initiative aims to promote women’s empowerment by providing safe and eco-friendly transportation options.

Senior Provincial Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon said the program will officially begin on March 8. He explained that the project is designed to help women travel more easily while also supporting environmentally sustainable transport solutions. According to the minister, the initiative reflects the provincial government’s broader commitment to improving mobility and safety for women across the province.

Under the program, selected female applicants will receive modern electric scooters that operate on energy-efficient technology and produce minimal environmental pollution. In addition to providing the scooters, the government will also arrange formal driving training sessions and road safety awareness programs for all recipients. These measures are intended to ensure that women can safely operate the vehicles and confidently travel on public roads.

Sharjeel Inam Memon highlighted that the “Pink Electric Scooter Program” is an important step toward increasing women’s independence and mobility. He added that the provincial administration plans to introduce more initiatives in the future that will help improve living standards and create better opportunities for the public, particularly women.

Earlier, in September last year, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, distributed free pink electric scooters among working women in Karachi during a special ceremony organized by the Sindh government. The event was attended by Murad Ali Shah along with other senior officials and dignitaries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the provincial government is working to expand facilities and opportunities for women, particularly those who are employed. He also noted that Sindh was the first province in Pakistan to introduce electric buses as part of efforts to modernize the transport system.

According to officials, the distribution of the electric scooters will take place through a transparent balloting process conducted in the presence of print and electronic media. A special committee comprising representatives from the Excise, Transport, and Finance departments, along with media personnel, will oversee the process to ensure fairness and transparency.

Women interested in applying for the program can submit their applications through the Sindh Mass Transit Authority website. Applicants need to visit the website, open the “Projects” section, select the “EV Scooty Ballot Form – Application Form,” complete the required details, attach the necessary documents, and submit the form online.
