Construction work on Swat Motorway Phase II has officially started in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi announced during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar.
The project aims to improve regional connectivity, boost economic activity, and promote tourism in Swat and surrounding areas, according to the chief minister. Phase II will cover approximately 80 kilometers, stretching from the Chakdara Interchange to Fatehpur. The plan includes the construction of nine interchanges and seven bridges over the Swat River.
During the meeting, officials also reviewed broader development initiatives in the Malakand region and proposals for the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026-27. Key priorities include infrastructure upgrades, improvements in education and healthcare facilities, and expansion of communication networks.
CM Afridi directed officials to resolve pending issues in Provincial Transmission Line Phase II to ensure the full utilization of hydropower projects across the province.
He further instructed authorities to accelerate the construction of the Shaheed Arshad Sharif University of Investigative and Modern Journalism, advance the Livestock University project, and complete the Engineering University under the DF&C scheme.
The Swat Motorway Phase II project is expected to significantly enhance mobility in the region, supporting both local residents and tourism development.
