The Punjab Drug Control Board has issued a warning after laboratory tests confirmed that several medicines being sold in medical stores across the province are fake or substandard.
According to officials, testing revealed that certain batches of medicines failed to meet the required quality standards. Investigations showed that some multivitamins for bone health and calcium supplements were counterfeit products circulating in pharmacies.
Authorities reported that the fake vitamins were linked to a pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Islamabad, raising concerns about the supply chain and the safety of medicines available in the market.
In addition to the counterfeit vitamins, officials also declared a widely used cough syrup substandard and contaminated during quality checks. Meanwhile, a pain-relief injection manufactured in Lahore was found to contain unwanted particles, making it unsafe for medical use.
The report further revealed that two veterinary injections produced by pharmaceutical companies in Lahore and Karachi also failed laboratory testing. Experts found that the medicines contained incorrect levels of active ingredients, which could reduce effectiveness or pose health risks.
Following these findings, the Punjab Health Department has ordered the immediate recall of the affected medicines from medical stores across the province to protect public health.
