The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to improve garbage collection across Islamabad by procuring modern machinery and increasing manpower. The decision was made during a meeting at CDA Headquarters, chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa.
The meeting focused on creating a high-standard cleanliness and sanitation system in Islamabad. Officials said the new machinery and additional staff will enhance both primary and secondary waste collection throughout the city.
Chairman Randhawa emphasized the need for a complete cleanliness system to address sanitation challenges without delay. He also announced a special cleanliness campaign across Islamabad, aimed at improving public hygiene and waste management.
The plan includes increasing the number of waste containers in urban and rural areas, repairing damaged bins, and adding more dustbins and waste collection trolleys across the city. Authorities will also implement a three-bin system in commercial markets to allow proper waste separation and recycling.
Local traders will be involved in the cleanliness campaign, and neighborhood committees will be formed to engage residents in maintaining sanitation. Authorities will issue challans and fines to individuals who litter in commercial areas, while the Islamabad Food Authority will take action against restaurants improperly disposing of waste.
A 24/7 control room will be established to monitor sanitation operations across Islamabad. Helpline numbers will be displayed on digital screens to facilitate citizen complaints. Field staff will be provided with wireless sets and new uniforms to improve response times.
The CDA also approved a licensing and registration system for scavengers involved in garbage collection. Officials stressed that these measures will help ensure a cleaner and healthier Islamabad.
