The Punjab government has finalized preparations to launch Phase-III of the Lahore Development Program, aimed at improving drainage systems and water supply networks across the provincial capital. The new phase focuses on addressing infrastructure gaps in areas that were not fully covered during Phase-I of the initiative.
Officials stated that Phase-III will commence in the next financial year and will prioritize neighborhoods where drainage and water supply services remain incomplete. The program aims to enhance urban infrastructure, reduce water accumulation during rains, and ensure clean water access for residents across the city.
Under the new phase, authorities plan to install comprehensive drainage and water supply networks in Nishtar Town, Ganj Bakhsh Town, Ravi Town, and Wagah Town. The design includes laying sewer lines directly linked to local streets, a measure intended to prevent overflow and waterlogging at the neighborhood level.
Phase-I of the program successfully laid new sewerage and water pipelines in multiple parts of Lahore, while construction under Phase-II continues in other zones of the city. Officials emphasized that Phase-III would complement previous efforts and extend infrastructure coverage to settlements that still lack basic services.
The government highlighted that the program is part of a broader effort to modernize Lahore’s urban utilities and improve living conditions for residents. By completing unfinished infrastructure, the project seeks to ensure more efficient water management and sanitation, mitigating issues that have historically caused flooding and water shortages in affected areas.
Authorities confirmed that detailed planning, funding allocation, and technical assessments have been completed for Phase-III, ensuring smooth implementation once construction begins in the upcoming fiscal year.
