The Punjab Health Department has placed all government hospitals across the province on high alert in response to an emergency situation. The decision aims to ensure that medical facilities remain fully prepared to handle any sudden surge in patients or critical cases.
According to an official directive, all District Health Authorities and public hospitals have been instructed to keep their emergency wards operational 24 hours a day without interruption. This step is intended to guarantee immediate medical assistance to patients at any time.
District Headquarters (DHQ) and Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospitals have also been directed to maintain round-the-clock functioning of operation theatres and radiology departments. These departments play a crucial role in performing urgent surgeries, diagnostic imaging, and treating trauma cases. Authorities want to ensure that emergency procedures can be carried out quickly whenever required.
The health department has further instructed hospitals to ensure the availability of specialist doctors, including physicians, surgeons, and orthopedic surgeons. In addition, adequate nursing staff, paramedics, and allied healthcare workers must remain on duty to support patient care services.
Hospitals have also been advised to maintain sufficient stocks of essential medicines, intravenous (IV) fluids, and surgical supplies to avoid shortages during emergencies. Officials emphasized that trauma and surgical emergency arrangements must remain fully prepared. Hospitals are required to coordinate closely with district administrations and Rescue 1122 to improve emergency response and patient transfer services.
Furthermore, the department has directed strict implementation of shift-wise duty rosters to ensure continuous and uninterrupted emergency medical services across Punjab. This high-alert status reflects the government’s effort to strengthen healthcare readiness during critical times.
