The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has successfully recovered 43.11 acres of valuable land belonging to Railway, worth approximately Rs9,671 million. This major recovery is part of ongoing efforts to protect government property from illegal occupation and ensure accountability in the use of state assets.
The recovered land, located at Survey Numbers 48, 49, 50, and 51 in Deh Khanto Juma Goth, Karachi, has an estimated value of Rs9.671 billion. Authorities stated that the land had reportedly been encroached upon by private textile mills, leading to a long legal and investigative process to restore its possession to the rightful department.
The investigation began on July 13, 2019, after allegations emerged that public land owned by Railway had been unlawfully occupied. Although the inquiry was temporarily closed following a decision by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, it was reopened in 2025 at the request of Pakistan Railways to further examine the matter.
During the renewed investigation, officials reviewed the role of employees from the Railway and Revenue Departments along with other individuals allegedly involved in the encroachment. While Pakistan Railways claimed that it had regained possession of the land in 2021 under court directions, NAB’s findings indicated that private parties were still occupying the property.
After completing the investigation, NAB officials successfully facilitated the recovery process and restored physical possession of the 43.11 acres to Railway authorities. The land has now been officially handed back to the department.
This recovery highlights NAB’s continued efforts to safeguard public assets, prevent illegal land grabbing, and strengthen transparency in managing government-owned property.
