Qatar has issued an urgent recall of several widely used beauty creams after laboratory tests revealed dangerously high mercury levels in the products. The alert was announced by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, triggering immediate action across retail markets.
Officials confirmed that the contaminated items were removed from store shelves following what they described as disturbing test results. Consumers have been strongly advised to stop using the affected products immediately and return them to the place of purchase to avoid potential health risks.
The recalled products include Aneeza Gold, Goree Beauty Cream, Goree Whitening Face Wash, Faiza Beauty Cream, Golden Pearl Beauty Cream, and Jiaoli Cream. These items are commonly marketed as skin-lightening or brightening solutions.
Health experts warn that mercury contamination poses serious dangers. Even small but prolonged exposure can damage the nervous system and kidneys. Users may initially experience skin irritation, rashes, peeling, or discoloration, while long-term use can allow toxic buildup in the bloodstream.
Authorities emphasized that mercury is especially dangerous because its harmful effects may not appear immediately. Continuous exposure can silently impact internal organs, making early prevention critical.
The ministry reiterated that consumer protection remains its top priority. Inspection teams are continuing strict monitoring of cosmetic products available in the market to prevent further public health risks.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unsafe cosmetic products to the Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Department. Officials said swift public cooperation will help ensure community safety and prevent further exposure to hazardous substances.
