Passengers traveling through Pakistan Railways can expect a smoother and more comfortable journey as a large-scale infrastructure upgrade begins at Lahore Railway Station. The initiative aims to resolve persistent traffic and congestion problems that have long troubled commuters around one of the country’s busiest railway hubs.
The Punjab government has approved several major improvements, including the construction of a modern parking plaza, better access roads, and a landscaped public park. These developments are intended to ease overcrowding and improve overall traffic management in the surrounding area.
According to officials, one of the biggest issues at the station has been traffic bottlenecks caused by limited parking space and poorly planned entry and exit routes. The new parking facility will have the capacity to accommodate between 250 and 300 vehicles, significantly reducing waiting times and allowing passengers to reach the station without unnecessary delays.
A central element of the project is a dedicated bridge that will offer direct access to the station for passengers arriving to board trains. In addition, new link roads will connect the station to major city routes, while alternative roads will divert unrelated traffic away from the railway premises. These measures are expected to streamline vehicle movement and minimize pressure on nearby roads.
Deputy Director of the Lahore Development Authority, Faisal Shafeeh, confirmed that work is progressing according to schedule and will be completed within the planned timeframe. He noted that the redesigned traffic system will enable thousands of passengers to access the station more easily and safely.
Inside the station, improvements have already been introduced, including newly established family and VIP lounges with upgraded seating and dining facilities. Once the entire project is finalized later this year, authorities anticipate a more organized, accessible, and visually improved railway station for the public.
