The Sindh Safe Cities Authority has announced plans to install smart no-parking cameras across Karachi as part of its efforts to improve traffic management and reduce illegal parking in the city. The new system will automatically detect vehicles parked in restricted areas and generate electronic traffic challans without requiring manual intervention.
According to the authority, the smart no-parking cameras will be placed at designated no-parking zones throughout Karachi. Using advanced technology, the cameras will identify vehicles violating parking regulations and instantly send the collected information to the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS), which is operated by the Karachi Traffic Police.
Director General Sarfaraz Nawaz said motorists found violating no-parking rules will receive electronic challans directly through the TRACS platform. The process will eliminate the need for traffic officers to issue fines in person, making enforcement more efficient, transparent, and contact-free.
The initiative is part of the broader Karachi Safe City Project, which aims to strengthen public safety and traffic monitoring through modern surveillance technology. Under the project, the Sindh Safe Cities Authority has already installed more than 1,300 AI-powered cameras at key locations across the city to monitor traffic flow, enhance security, and assist law enforcement agencies.
Officials said the addition of smart no-parking cameras will further expand the city’s surveillance network and improve the ability of the Karachi Traffic Police to enforce parking regulations in real time. The automated system is expected to help reduce traffic congestion caused by illegally parked vehicles while ensuring quicker and more accurate issuance of traffic fines.
The authority believes the technology-driven approach will promote better compliance with traffic laws and encourage motorists to follow parking regulations. By introducing automated enforcement, officials hope to create a smoother traffic environment, minimize human interaction during the challan process, and enhance overall road discipline across Karachi. The new smart no-parking cameras are expected to play a key role in modernizing traffic management and supporting the city’s ongoing smart surveillance initiatives.
