Kamil Khan has stepped down from his leadership role with the Sialkot Stallionz just weeks before the 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League, citing internal management decisions. His sudden departure has sparked uncertainty around the franchise’s stability ahead of the tournament.
In a statement shared online, Khan explained he joined the project purely out of passion for Pakistan cricket and oversaw cricket operations. During his tenure, he claimed to have secured Australian batter Steve Smith, brought in former captain Tim Paine, and finalized a sponsorship deal with New Balance.
He emphasized that his exit was not abrupt but carefully planned, stating he delayed announcing the decision until he believed the team’s affairs were stable. Khan added that certain recent management choices ultimately convinced him to step aside from his responsibilities.
Sources close to league operations revealed that a new investor has agreed in principle to acquire more than ninety percent shares of the franchise. This move would effectively remove administrative control from OZ Group, which has reportedly struggled financially since securing ownership rights last year.
The ownership complications trace back to the latest franchise auction conducted by the Pakistan Cricket Board, where FKS Group secured one team successfully while OZ Group faced payment challenges after partners withdrew. Despite providing a bank guarantee, financial concerns continued to surround their ability to meet obligations.
Meanwhile, cricket legend Wasim Akram confirmed he is not associated with the Stallionz presidency, clarifying discussions never progressed beyond informal talks. With PSL regulations restricting full ownership transfers during the first three years, any incoming party is expected to operate only as a strategic partner for now.
