Pakistani Poet Syed Salman Gilani Passes Away

Renowned Naat poet and author Salman Gilani has passed away after battling a long illness, his family confirmed on Saturday.

The 74-year-old poet was undergoing treatment at a local hospital, where he breathed his last. Salman Gilani was celebrated for his deeply spiritual devotional poetry and earned the title “Poet of Khatm-e-Nubuwwat” due to his remarkable services to Naat literature.

His poetry reflected profound religious devotion blended with a distinctive literary style that touched audiences nationwide. Through his work, Salman Gilani built a lasting reputation in Pakistan’s religious and literary circles.

He was the son of Syed Amin Gilani, a known figure associated with the Khatm-e-Nubuwwat movement. Following his death, political leaders and members of the literary community expressed sorrow, describing the passing of Salman Gilani as a major loss for Urdu literature and devotional poetry.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also offered condolences, terming his death an irreparable loss to religious and literary communities.

The family is expected to announce funeral details soon. Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in from poets, scholars, and admirers who remember Salman Gilani for his enduring spiritual and literary contributions
