The Government of Punjab has unveiled a revised transport policy for senior bureaucrats, introducing significant changes to vehicle engine capacities and monthly fuel allowances. The updated policy outlines new entitlements for officers across various grades, aiming to modernize official transportation and better align resources with responsibilities.
Under the new guidelines, the Chief Secretary and the Inspector General of Police (IG Punjab) are allowed to maintain three official vehicles with engine capacities of 2800cc, 1800cc, and 4700cc. Two of these vehicles come with a monthly fuel allocation of 800 liters, while no fuel limit applies to the 4700cc vehicle. This marks a notable increase from the previous policy, which permitted 1300cc and 1600cc vehicles for the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary, along with 200 liters of petrol per month. Fuel used during official tours previously had no limits.
The policy also sets revised entitlements for other senior officers. Grade 20–22 secretaries may now use two vehicles with engine capacities of 2800cc and 1800cc, receiving 200 liters of petrol for personal use, with unlimited fuel for official purposes. Previously, administrative secretaries were limited to a 1300cc vehicle and 200 liters per month.
For Grade 19–22 officers, including special secretaries and DIGs, the revised policy allows 1600cc vehicles with 250 liters of monthly petrol, compared to 1000–1300cc vehicles and 175 liters previously. Grade 19 additional secretaries now receive 200 liters of fuel with a 1600cc vehicle. Deputy secretaries in Grade 18 are allocated 1500cc vehicles with 175 liters of petrol, up from 1000cc vehicles and 150 liters under the earlier policy. Staff officers and section officers of the Chief Secretary and provincial ministers are now entitled to 1300cc vehicles with 150 and 125 liters of petrol, respectively.
Overall, the updated transport policy expands engine capacity limits and increases fuel allocations, providing senior officers with enhanced official transportation benefits while modernizing the previous framework.
