Authorities in Karachi have launched urgent action after reports revealed widespread sales of vapes and narcotics near educational institutions, alarming parents and officials. The development triggered swift administrative attention as concerns grew about student safety and exposure to harmful substances.
According to a report by ARY News, officials instructed local administrations to monitor cafés and retail shops operating around schools suspected of selling restricted products to students. The directive highlights rising fears that easy availability is encouraging underage use.
The Sindh Education Department issued orders to deputy commissioners to conduct inspections and ensure strict enforcement against businesses violating regulations near school zones. Authorities stressed that inspections must be regular, coordinated, and supported by law-enforcement agencies.
Officials said vape devices were discovered during school bag checks of students from grades nine through twelve, confirming access points close to campuses. Several students admitted purchasing the items from nearby cafés and shops without facing age verification or restrictions.
The official communication also warned that certain cafés outside schools may be facilitating access to narcotics, intensifying safety concerns for families. Authorities noted that such activities not only threaten health but also risk exposing minors to criminal networks.
Administrators stated that stronger enforcement measures, including fines, closures, or relocation of cafés, may be implemented where violations are confirmed. The initiative aims to create safer school environments and prevent students from accessing harmful substances in surrounding areas.
