Islamabad to Launch Motorcycle M-Tag from February 20

After successfully rolling out the M-Tag system for vehicles, authorities have announced that motorcycles will also be required to obtain M-Tags in Islamabad starting February 20.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon shared on X that motorcycle owners can collect their M-Tags from 13 designated centers across the city by presenting their vehicle documents and valid identification cards. The requirement will apply to all categories of motorcycles, including standard bikes, bikias, and heavy motorcycles.

So far, more than 600,000 vehicles have already been issued M-Tags, while the registration process for bikias and online taxi services is still underway. Officials say the expansion of the system is aimed at enhancing traffic management, improving road safety, and ensuring smoother travel within the capital. Citizens have been encouraged to cooperate with authorities and participate actively in the M-Tag drive.

The M-Tag system was originally introduced by the National Highways Authority (NHA) to facilitate electronic toll collection on motorways. It enables cashless payments, faster lane clearance, and reduces waiting times at toll plazas.

In Islamabad, the M-Tag is being issued at a cost of Rs250. Authorities have warned that vehicles operating without the required tag may face penalties or fines once the new policy takes effect.
