1st Ramadan Bank Holiday Announced by SBP for Zakat Purpose

The State Bank of Pakistan has announced a Bank Holiday on the 1st of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 1447 A.H.. The holiday is designated for the purpose of Zakat deduction.

According to the official notification, all commercial banks, development financial institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks (MFBs) will remain closed for public dealing on this day. Customers will not be able to carry out public transactions during the Bank Holiday.

Despite the closure for public services, all bank employees are required to attend office as usual. The day will be considered a normal working day for staff, while public-facing operations will remain suspended.

The decision ensures that Zakat deductions are conducted according to regulatory guidelines. It also allows banks to maintain internal operations without interruption.

Customers are advised to plan their financial transactions ahead of time to avoid inconvenience due to the Bank Holiday. Branches will resume normal public services after the holiday.

This announcement highlights the SBP’s efforts to streamline Zakat collection while maintaining operational efficiency. Officials said the move is standard practice for important Islamic observances.

The Bank Holiday aligns with the beginning of Ramadan, a period when Muslims focus on charitable giving and financial transparency. Banks follow these directives to ensure smooth Zakat processes for customers.

The SBP’s notification is part of ongoing efforts to manage banking operations efficiently while respecting religious observances. All banks, DFIs, and MFBs are expected to comply fully with the announced holiday schedule.
