Renowned businessman Arif Habib has revealed new details about the privatization of PIA. He stated that Field Marshal Asim Munir personally engaged business leaders in the process.
Speaking at a ceremony in Karachi, Habib expressed confidence in the airline’s future. He said, “Good days are coming for Pakistan.” According to him, the privatization of PIA is a positive step for the country.
Habib explained that Asim Munir called him and other business figures to discuss the sale of the national carrier. The field marshal expressed a preference for a Pakistani group to purchase PIA. Habib suggested that if a Pakistani group is involved, the military should also participate in the initiative.
Fauji Fertiliser Becomes Major Shareholder
Habib disclosed that Fauji Fertiliser Company is now the largest shareholder in PIA, holding a 33.9% stake. This marks a significant shift in the airline’s ownership as part of the privatization plan.
The businessman also shared details about PIA’s fleet expansion. The airline is negotiating to acquire 20 new aircraft. Airbus and Boeing have assured that 10-year-old planes will be provided soon. This expansion is seen as key to improving the airline’s operations and overall efficiency.
Optimism for the Future
Arif Habib said the privatization process has been welcomed by many across Pakistan. He believes the restructuring of PIA reflects a positive direction for the national economy.
“Hopefully, good days are coming for Pakistan,” he added. The businessman emphasized that the steps being taken will strengthen the airline and increase investor confidence.
