Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the Digital Traffic E-Challan system, called “One App,” to enhance transparency and enforce traffic laws more effectively throughout the province.
The new system will securely store video records of traffic violations, making them easily verifiable. Authorities can instantly check identity cards, driving licences, and verify whether a vehicle is stolen.
The app also enables real-time verification of vehicle ownership, fitness certificates, and route permits. In addition, it allows digital action against encroachments and environmental violations, streamlining enforcement across multiple sectors.
As part of an integrated framework, “One App” provides access to e-challan records, FIR status, and criminal history, strengthening law enforcement accountability.
Last year, Punjab introduced major traffic reforms for the first time in six decades to improve road safety. During a meeting in Lahore, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved 20 amendments to the Traffic Act, aimed at making travel safer and more efficient.
Under the new rules, vehicles repeatedly violating traffic laws may be auctioned, and government vehicles will face stricter penalties for infractions. A 30-day grace period was introduced to address wrong-way driving, while U-turns are being redesigned to better organize traffic and enhance safety.
The reforms also ensure prompt compensation (diyat) for families of accident victims, reflecting a comprehensive approach to road safety and citizen protection.
