Sri Lanka Requests PCB Continue Match Against India

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to rethink reports suggesting Pakistan might boycott its highly anticipated match against India during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The match is scheduled to take place on February 15 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

SLC President Shammi Silva wrote to the PCB after media claims indicated that although Pakistan plans to participate in the tournament, it may skip the marquee clash against India. In the letter, SLC emphasized that Sri Lanka, as a host nation, has completed all major preparations for the World Cup. These arrangements include commercial planning, logistics, operations, security measures, hospitality services, and ticket management.

The board highlighted that ticket sales for the matches in Sri Lanka, especially the Pakistan–India game, were completed early and received overwhelming demand from fans. SLC warned that Pakistan’s absence from such a key fixture could lead to serious financial losses, disrupt sponsorship agreements, and negatively affect tourism-related businesses.

According to reports, Sri Lanka’s hotel and tourism sectors have already started facing consequences, with several booking cancellations in Colombo following the boycott rumors. Many hotels had prepared for a large influx of international visitors during the match period, but the uncertainty has affected occupancy expectations.

SLC stressed that the impact would extend beyond cricket, affecting various stakeholders and the country’s overall planning for the tournament. The board also recalled Sri Lanka’s past support for Pakistan, noting that the Sri Lankan team toured Pakistan even during difficult security situations, showing goodwill and sportsmanship.

Reaffirming its commitment to safety and neutrality, SLC assured full security for all participating teams. In conclusion, the board appealed to the PCB to participate in every scheduled match in Sri Lanka to protect the interests of the tournament, partners, and millions of cricket fans worldwide.
