Basant celebrations in Lahore have led to a surge in kite-related business across the city. Traders reported strong sales of kites, reels, and kite strings.
The Kite Flying Association’s legal adviser, Malik Faizan Ahmed, said that on the fourth day of Basant, sales of kite string reels alone crossed Rs 1.22 billion. Despite rising prices, kites and accessories remained widely available in Lahore’s markets.
More than one million kite reels were sold on the fourth day. In addition, buyers purchased over 20,000 spools of kite string (pannas). These numbers highlight the popularity of Basant and the continued enthusiasm for kite flying.
Ahmed also shared updated prices from the markets. A one-and-a-half tawa reel sells for Rs 700, a one tawa reel for Rs 400, and a half tawa reel for Rs 300. Meanwhile, a two-piece panna ranges from Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 depending on quality.
Daily Sales Show Rapid Growth
Daily sales figures indicate steady growth during Basant. On the first day, transactions reached Rs 160 million. The second day recorded Rs 180 million in sales, followed by Rs 200 million on the third day. On the fourth day alone, buying and selling surged to Rs 680 million.
Major Markets Remain Active
Trade continues to thrive in several key markets, including Androon Mochi Gate, Islam Pura, Sanda, Samanabad, Nonarian, and Ichhra. Local vendors report a high volume of buyers and lively market activity.
Basant not only brings cultural excitement but also boosts local businesses. Kite sales during the festival contribute significantly to the city’s economic activity, attracting both traders and enthusiasts.
