Sindh Plans Upgrade of 300 Tabies Treatment Centers

The Sindh government has announced plans to upgrade 300 treatment and prevention facilities under the Rabies Control Program Sindh (RCPS) to improve rabies prevention and medical care across the province. The move aims to strengthen the healthcare system’s response to the growing number of rabies and dog-bite cases.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Rabies Control Program chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah. Officials shared that rabies treatment services will be made more accessible, with centers available every 10 to 15 kilometers so that patients can receive quick medical attention without traveling long distances.

Authorities confirmed that all 300 rabies centers located in different districts will be modernized. The chief secretary said the provincial government is adopting a comprehensive and proactive strategy to tackle rabies effectively. He assured that sufficient medicines, anti-rabies vaccines, and essential supplies will be purchased to ensure timely and proper treatment for victims.

The upgrade will be carried out in phases. Each center will receive better facilities, standardized treatment procedures, and improved service delivery. Staff working under the rabies control program will also undergo specialized training to strengthen their technical knowledge and clinical skills, enabling them to handle cases more efficiently.

In addition to medical improvements, the government plans to launch a province-wide awareness campaign to educate the public about rabies prevention and the importance of immediate treatment after dog bites.

The initiative follows a worrying rise in rabies-related incidents. Hospitals have reported a sharp increase in dog-bite cases, especially in Karachi, where over 3,400 cases were recorded in January alone. The province also reported its first rabies death of 2026, raising serious public health concerns and prompting urgent action.
