Sindh Extends School Timings Amid Cold Wave

The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has extended revised school timings across the province until February 4 in response to the ongoing cold wave. The change applies to both public and private schools, with classes starting at 9 am while closing times remain unchanged.

The revised schedule was initially implemented on January 10 after severe cold conditions were reported across Sindh. The adjustment had previously been extended until January 26, but authorities have now decided to prolong it following continued intense cold weather.

A department spokesperson explained that the decision aligns with directives from Sindh Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah, prioritizing student safety and well-being amid low temperatures. Schools across all districts, including Karachi, will follow the revised schedule.

The cold wave persists in Karachi, with wind speeds reaching 45 km/h over the past two days, according to the Deputy Director of the Pakistan Meteorological Department. Temperatures in the city remain low but are expected to rise gradually in February as western weather systems move across the country.

In Karachi, the lowest temperatures were recorded at Jinnah Terminal at 10.2°C and Mārīpur at 14°C. Other areas recorded minimum temperatures of 12.5°C at Shahrah-e-Faisal, 11.5°C in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and 12.4°C in Bin Qasim.

Officials have urged students, parents, and school staff to stay cautious and follow weather advisories while the cold wave continues to affect the province.
