Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have surged across Pakistan, with consumers reporting that the fuel is being sold between Rs370 and Rs410 per kilogram in various markets despite the official government rate of Rs241 per kilogram.
The significant difference between the notified price and the market rate has increased the financial burden on households already struggling with inflation. Consumers say the continued rise in LPG prices has made it increasingly difficult to manage everyday expenses.
According to reports, LPG is not readily available at the official price in many parts of the country. As a result, customers are being forced to purchase the fuel at much higher market rates to meet their daily cooking needs.
Many families rely on LPG as their primary cooking fuel, particularly in areas where natural gas is unavailable or faces frequent supply interruptions. Consumers said they have no option but to pay inflated prices despite the government’s notified rate.
The growing price gap has raised concerns about alleged hoarding and profiteering in the LPG market. Consumers claim that retailers are selling LPG well above the official price without effective enforcement by the relevant authorities.
Residents have urged the government to take immediate action to ensure LPG is available at the officially notified rate of Rs241 per kilogram. They also called for strict measures against hoarding, illegal price increases and market manipulation.
Consumers stressed that affordable access to LPG is essential for millions of households across the country. They appealed to the authorities to strengthen market monitoring and provide relief amid rising living costs.
The latest increase in LPG prices comes as inflation continues to affect household budgets, adding further pressure on families already dealing with higher costs for food, utilities and transportation.
