A scuffle broke out between PTI lawmakers Iqbal Afridi and Khurram Shahzad at the entrance of Parliament House’s gate number one on Friday. The incident occurred during a heated discussion on political matters.
According to sources, MNA Iqbal Afridi called Khurram Shahzad a “tout,” which led to a physical confrontation. Both lawmakers pushed each other before other members intervened. Khurram Shahzad was escorted into the parliament by fellow lawmakers to prevent further escalation.
After the initial scuffle, Iqbal Afridi continued exchanging harsh words, this time with journalists present at the scene. PTI President Barrister Gohar tried to calm Afridi, but his efforts were unsuccessful. Afridi openly questioned Barrister Gohar, asking why he allowed certain individuals to remain part of PTI.
During the confrontation, Afridi reportedly told Barrister Gohar that “all the problems arise because of you,” directly blaming the party president for internal disagreements. The exchange highlighted ongoing tensions among PTI lawmakers during parliamentary proceedings.
MNA Nisar Jatt later intervened to convince Iqbal Afridi to enter the parliament. Initially, Afridi refused to join the opposition lobby, further delaying parliamentary proceedings. After some persuasion, Nisar Jatt succeeded in bringing Afridi inside the House.
Barrister Gohar’s role in the incident was significant, as he attempted to mediate between the two lawmakers and restore order. His intervention, however, showed the challenges party leadership faces in managing internal disputes.
The incident drew attention to factional tensions within PTI. Observers noted that confrontations like this could affect the party’s public image and parliamentary effectiveness.
Barrister Gohar later addressed party members, urging calm and discipline. He emphasized that internal conflicts should be resolved through dialogue rather than public confrontations.
