Murree Police on Thursday issued a detailed 10-point traffic and travel advisory as heavy snowfall and possible blizzard-like conditions are expected in the hill station from Thursday evening. Authorities have advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel to Murree during the severe weather spell to reduce risks and prevent congestion on narrow mountain roads.
District Police Officer Murree, Dr Muhammad Raza Tanveer Sipra, said police teams have been placed on high alert to ensure public safety and maintain smooth traffic flow. However, he stressed that police efforts alone are not enough, and public cooperation is essential, especially as weather conditions are expected to worsen.
According to the advisory, tourists are strongly urged to postpone non-essential trips until conditions improve. Those who must travel have been instructed to fully prepare their vehicles for winter driving. This includes fitting snow chains, ensuring proper tire grip, and keeping fuel tanks full to handle long delays or road closures.
Police also warned motorists to use vehicle heaters carefully during prolonged stoppages. Drivers have been advised to keep windows slightly open to prevent dangerous carbon monoxide buildup. The advisory further instructs motorists to drive at reduced speeds, maintain safe distances, and avoid night travel due to poor visibility and icy surfaces.
To prevent traffic bottlenecks, the advisory strictly prohibits parking on main roads or steep slopes. Tourists must use designated parking areas only. Motorists have also been told to use headlights in foggy conditions and avoid unnecessary use of hazard lights, reserving them for emergencies only.
Murree Police urged visitors to strictly follow traffic wardens’ instructions, cooperate at checkpoints, and stay updated on weather and road conditions before traveling. In case of emergencies, citizens have been advised to contact Police Helpline 15 or Rescue 1122 for immediate assistance.
