China has built the largest EV charging network in the world, capable of supporting more than 40 million new energy vehicles. The National Energy Administration (NEA) announced the milestone on Wednesday.

By the end of 2025, the total number of charging facilities in China reached 20.092 million, doubling in just 18 months. This rapid expansion highlights China’s commitment to electric mobility.

The average power per public EV charging station reached 46.5 kilowatts, a 33 percent increase compared to last year. This higher capacity allows faster and more efficient charging for electric vehicles.

China has installed 71,500 charging piles along expressways, covering more than 98 percent of service areas. Additionally, 19 provincial regions have achieved full coverage, ensuring all townships have access to charging facilities.

The largest EV infrastructure in China demonstrates the country’s leading role in the global electric vehicle market. The system is designed to meet growing demand as more consumers adopt electric vehicles.

Experts say the expansion of China’s EV charging network will significantly reduce range anxiety for drivers and encourage further adoption of green vehicles. The network also sets a benchmark for other countries to follow.

NEA officials noted that the construction of this network involved both private and public investment, combining state support with market participation. This approach accelerated the growth of EV infrastructure across the country.

The network includes fast-charging stations, standard chargers, and urban and rural coverage, making it easier for drivers to travel long distances. The integration of technology ensures real-time monitoring and maintenance of the charging facilities.

The development of the largest EV charging system reflects China’s broader strategy to promote sustainable transport. The initiative is expected to continue expanding, supporting electric vehicles in cities and remote regions alike.

China’s achievement also strengthens its position in the global electric vehicle market, demonstrating its ability to scale infrastructure rapidly and efficiently.
