Surgeon Successfully Removes 18.5-Kilogram Abdominal Tumor in Multan

In a rare and highly complex surgical procedure, a senior surgeon from Nishtar Hospital successfully removed an enormous 18.5-kilogram abdominal tumor from a 55-year-old woman at a private clinic in Multan.

The patient, a resident of Muzaffargarh, had been admitted with severe abdominal pain, noticeable swelling, and difficulty breathing. Diagnostic tests and medical examinations revealed a massive ovarian tumor that had grown over time, posing serious health risks due to its size.

Dr. Khadim Hussain, the senior surgeon who performed the operation, explained that such tumors often develop because of hormonal imbalances, untreated ovarian cysts, age-related changes in reproductive organs, or prolonged neglect of early symptoms. He noted that these growths typically remain symptomless in their early stages, allowing them to reach dangerous proportions before detection.

The surgery was described as highly sensitive due to the tumor’s massive size and the potential risks associated with removing it from the abdominal cavity. Despite these challenges, the operation was completed successfully.

Doctors have reported that the patient is now in stable condition and recovering well. Medical staff emphasized that early diagnosis and timely treatment are crucial in preventing similar cases from reaching such critical stages.

The successful removal of the tumor has been hailed as a significant achievement by the surgical team and highlights the expertise available in Pakistan’s healthcare system for handling complex medical cases.
