Pakistan Targets 800,000 Overseas Jobs to Strengthen Economy

Pakistan aims to create employment opportunities for 800,000 citizens in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries by 2026. The initiative is part of efforts to promote skills development and strengthen the economy.

According to Khaleej Times, the Pakistani government is implementing reforms to address challenges faced by overseas workers. These measures focus on improving skills, expanding job opportunities, and protecting workers abroad. Experts say these steps are important for Pakistan’s economic growth.

The report highlighted that Pakistan plans to secure 800,000 jobs in the UAE and other GCC countries this year. This marks an increase of 60,000 positions compared to 2025.

Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain said that Pakistan exported 740,000 workers in 2025 and aims to reach 800,000 in 2026.

Currently, more than 9 million Pakistanis live in GCC countries, contributing significantly to the country’s economy. Overseas Pakistanis sent around $40 billion in remittances last year, providing crucial support for national revenue.

The report also noted that in December 2025, Italy offered 10,500 jobs to Pakistani workers, mainly in health and agriculture sectors.

Officials said expanding overseas employment opportunities remains a key strategy for workforce development and long-term economic stability. By increasing access to global jobs, Pakistan can enhance skills, create livelihoods, and strengthen its economic position internationally.

The government’s plan shows a clear focus on labor reforms, skills training, and international employment. These measures are expected to support Pakistan’s economy and provide better opportunities for its citizens.
