Peshawar Safe City Project Completion Date Announced

The much-anticipated Peshawar Safe City Project is now nearing its final stages, with authorities announcing a clear completion date for the flagship urban security initiative. Officials reviewing progress say the project is on track to be fully completed by January 31, 2026, marking a major milestone in the province’s efforts to enhance public safety through technology-driven surveillance and response systems.

The announcement came during a high-level review meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, where officials provided updates on the installation of cameras and command-and-control infrastructure across Peshawar. The project aims to deploy a network of advanced CCTV cameras, integrated command centres, and other monitoring systems to improve law enforcement capabilities and reduce crime in the provincial capital.

Work is progressing rapidly, with camera poles and surveillance equipment being installed on major roads, intersections, and key access points within the city. Officials told the meeting that the programme’s phased development includes the integration of the latest technology to support incident detection, response coordination, and operational efficiency once live.

The Peshawar Safe City Project is part of a broader Safe Cities rollout across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which also includes parallel projects in Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and Lakki Marwat. These districts are similarly expected to complete their respective surveillance and control systems by the end of January.

Authorities have also finalised PC-1 documents for additional Safe Cities initiatives in Karak, Tank, and North Waziristan, where preparatory work is already underway. The expanded network aims to strengthen security infrastructure, promote public order, and support law enforcement agencies with real-time data and automated monitoring tools.

The Safe City initiative has been positioned as a key component of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s modern policing strategy, with the provincial government pushing for timely completion and future expansion to other divisions
