Karachi Beaches To Be Developed Into Tourist Destinations

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced an ambitious plan to transform Ziarat Hassan Shah Island, located off Karachi’s coastline, into a modern and eco-friendly tourist destination aimed at boosting economic activity.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, with the minister stating that the federal government is expected to invest more than Rs1 billion in the development project. Officials believe the initiative will also attract billions of rupees in private sector investment over time.

Ziarat Hassan Shah Island lies near Karachi and has long remained underdeveloped despite its strategic coastal location. The proposed project seeks to unlock its tourism potential while ensuring sustainable and environmentally responsible development practices are followed.

According to the minister, a key component of the plan involves connecting the island to Karachi’s District East through a road link. This connectivity is expected to significantly improve access, making the destination more attractive for tourists and investors alike.

Chaudhry emphasized that the project will generate employment opportunities for local communities, particularly in tourism, hospitality, transport, and related services. He added that the initiative would provide a much-needed economic boost to the surrounding areas.

Highlighting the broader vision, the minister said the development of Ziarat Hassan Shah Island would set a new benchmark for Pakistan’s blue economy. He stressed that protecting the coastal ecosystem would remain a priority alongside infrastructure and tourism expansion.
