A young man, Arif, caught a 65-kilogram fish from the River Ravi near the Kartarpur area in Narowal. The enormous catch has drawn attention from local communities and fish traders.
After bringing the fish to the local market, a trader offered Arif Rs90,000. However, he refused the offer, saying he wanted Rs100,000 for the fish. Arif described the catch as a royal breed, noting that it had thorns, which added to its value.
“This is a unique catch. Its size and thorns make it rare and valuable,” Arif said, expressing excitement over his accomplishment.
The catch highlights the rich aquatic life of the River Ravi, which is home to several large fish species. Fishermen in the region often target these giant fish, particularly during flood or monsoon seasons, when they are more likely to appear.
This is not the first record of a massive fish caught from the River Ravi. In October 2025, another fisherman from Narowal caught a 92-kilogram giant fish in the village of Chandyali. That fisherman also expressed joy, saying it was the first giant fish he had ever caught in his life.
Experts say such catches are a reflection of the river’s biodiversity and its importance as a source of livelihood for local communities. Large fish from the River Ravi are often highly prized in markets due to their rarity and potential economic value.
Arif’s giant fish has sparked interest among traders and fish enthusiasts alike. Authorities emphasize sustainable fishing practices to preserve the rich ecosystem of the River Ravi while allowing fishermen to benefit from its resources.
